The Winner Effect & Creativity: Getting Yourself Unstuck

You're sitting there, staring at your screen, MIDI keyboard or instrument- In a downward spiral of overthinking and "derping". You could try and work on an existing idea or start something new, but you would rather not at the same time. If you have ever experienced this, it's a weird phase to be in. Shit can be hard.

It's real easy to get ourselves stuck in this situation, especially if you find yourself staying indoors more often, or if you naturally prefer to be away from others. 

As someone who was naturally shy and used to hate going out of the flat (still do at times) I know what it's like to feel the resistance to make something or feel like what you're doing makes no sense and isn't worth it. If you are not experiencing any of the above then tune out now.

What to do? You need to bring about that "winner effect" once again. That feeling of upwards momentum. This feeling is, in my view, the absolute KEY fix to creative blocks. Momentum gets you out of your head and into DOING MODE. 

Here is your challenge, you NEED to try this, seriously - Go outside, preferably in the morning to get ahead of the day, and without wanting anything in return, say "good morning" to people, even just a few. If somebody ignores you, cool, they're the weird ones, you keep moving.

Onwards and upwards. If someone decides to say "hi, how are you?" back, then go with it, have a brief conversation. Do it. We often underestimate the massive value in being social. Creatively speaking, it gets us the fuck out of our heads and into momentum and opens up the bandwidth in our brain - THIS is when we get that cool idea for a song, or our next business idea. Plus, it just helps us to also feel like the world isn't on top of us, and that people are not our enemy, but our friend.

So...

GO OUT. Get yourself outside and say "hello" to some people. The benefits are insane.
